In storeYesAmazon's in-store payment help page says to pay with SNAP EBT, visit a checkout lane at Whole Foods Market or see a team member at an Amazon Grocery store. Amazon.com itself has no stores, so this applies only to those Amazon-owned stores.[1]
OnlineYesAmazon says it accepts SNAP EBT nationwide. SNAP can pay for SNAP-eligible food on Amazon.com, Amazon Fresh and Whole Foods Market (select regions), and some local grocery retailers on Amazon. No Prime membership is needed. You need a personal Amazon account, since Amazon Business accounts cannot pay with EBT, and only one EBT card can be registered per account.[2]
PickupYesAmazon says pickup at Amazon Fresh stores is free and pickup at select local grocery retailers is free, where available. Whole Foods Market pickup is listed as free on orders of $35 or more without a subscription. Pickup is available only in select regions.

Sources disagree: Two Amazon pages differ on Whole Foods pickup. The EBT FAQ says free on orders of $35 or more. Amazon's separate SNAP page (aboutamazon.com) says free on any order size. Treat the minimum as unconfirmed and check at checkout.

DeliveryPartlySNAP EBT can pay for eligible food on delivery orders, but not for delivery, shipping or service fees, tips, or gift wrap. Those need another payment method such as a credit or debit card. Amazon sets free-delivery order minimums and service fees that differ by Amazon.com groceries, Amazon Fresh, Whole Foods and local retailers; see Amazon for current amounts. Delivery from New Hampshire, Vermont and Rhode Island addresses is limited to nearby states: New Hampshire to NH, MA, ME and VT; Vermont to VT, MA, NH and NY; Rhode Island to RI, CT and MA.

Sources disagree: Amazon's EBT FAQ and its separate SNAP page (aboutamazon.com) list different Amazon Fresh and Whole Foods delivery fee amounts, so we do not state amounts here.

Good to know

  • SNAP EBT works only for SNAP-eligible food that is shipped and sold by Amazon.com, Amazon Fresh, Whole Foods Market or a participating local grocery retailer. Items from third-party sellers are not eligible. Look for the SNAP EBT eligible label. Non-eligible items can go in the same order with another payment method. Subscribe & Save orders cannot be paid with SNAP, because SNAP needs a PIN each time. Eligibility varies by state: in states with USDA-approved restrictions, items such as soda, candy and prepared desserts are marked ineligible. Cash EBT, which is separate, is accepted on Amazon.com in these states and D.C.: Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Mexico, New York, Nevada, North Carolina, Oregon, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Vermont, Washington, West Virginia. It is not accepted on Amazon Fresh or Whole Foods. [2]
