Why this site exists
Searching "does Costco take EBT" or "can I buy rotisserie chicken with SNAP" turns up pages that disagree with each other and rarely say when they were last checked. For someone standing in a checkout line, or planning a week of groceries on a fixed budget, a wrong answer costs real money.
This site is built to be the page you can check for yourself. If we say a store takes EBT online, you can open the store's own help page and see the same words, with the date we looked.
Our standards
- Primary sources only
Answers come from the store's own pages, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, your state's SNAP agency, and official records such as bill pages when a rule is still only a proposal. We never use other "does it take EBT" websites as a source, and we do not copy their text.
- Every fact is dated
Each page shows when its facts were verified and when we plan to check them again. Policies change, so a fact without a date is not a fact we publish.
- Disagreements are shown, not hidden
When two official sources say different things, both appear on the page with an explanation. For example, on our Costco page the warehouse answer, the Costco.com answer and the Same-Day delivery answer are listed separately, each with its own source, because they are not the same.
- If we can't confirm it, we say so
An answer we have not verified is labeled "Not yet verified," or the page is held back until it is. We would rather leave a gap than guess.
- A person approves every fact
We use software to gather and compare source pages. A person reviews each fact before it is published, and every change to a fact is tracked. Reports of errors are checked against a primary source before we edit anything.
The full checklist is on How we verify facts.
How to read a page
Most stores give different answers for different ways of shopping, so we show each one separately.
- YesThe source says EBT works this way. The details column tells you any limits, such as items EBT can't buy.
- PartlyIt depends. EBT may work at some locations or in some states, for some purchases, or with a condition such as paying fees by card. The details say which.
- NoThe source says EBT does not work this way, or the store's own list of accepted payments leaves it out. We note which of the two it is.
- Not yet verifiedWe have not confirmed this against a primary source, so we are not telling you either way.
The small numbers like [1] next to an answer point to the source list at the bottom of the page. "Verified" is the day we read the source. "Next check" is when we plan to read it again.
Where the information comes from
Right now the site cites 175 pages across 92 websites. They fall into three groups.
- Retailers' own help and payment pages. When a retailer's page can't be read by software, an editor copies the text in by hand, and the citation says so.
- USDA. Its Food and Nutrition Administration publishes the list of states and retailers approved for online SNAP, the Restaurant Meals Program states, food-restriction waivers and the rules on what SNAP can buy.
- State SNAP agencies. They run your EBT card, so phone numbers, replacement steps and local rules on state pages come from them.
Independence
- We are not part of USDA, any state agency or any retailer.
- We do not run ads, affiliate links or sponsored content today.
- Nobody can pay to change an answer.
- We never ask for your name, EBT card number or case number.
- We do not give eligibility or legal advice. Your state SNAP agency decides your benefits.
If we ever add paid links, they will be labeled where they appear, and this page and the Privacy page will be updated first.
Who runs it
Who Accepts EBT is run by one independent editor, who publishes under the name Andrew. There is no staff list or credentials section here on purpose: you should not have to take anyone's word for these answers. Each one points to its source so you can check it yourself.
